I have a new wall. It is white and I admit, inviting. The suggestion has been made by several friends to do a mural on my front wall.
How very odd today, to go out and find that someone "tagged" my wall.
We each have a need to be seen. To be heard...valued...significant somehow, in our own tiny circle of the world. How very strange to have my personal space, marked by a total stranger...

How I make an ACEO

What is an ACEO you ask? An ACEO is a miniature work of art that is only 2.5 x 3.5 inches in size. ACEO stands for: Art Cards Editions and Originals. The majority of my ACEO's are Original Paintings or Mixed Media pieces. A lot of energy and creative process goes into the making of one of these little keepers. Why back in my day...well, let me just show you. Watch this moving picture show. Organ music, please!

Reading IS Fundamental

As a book lover and illustrator, I am very moved by this plea for support. Please read and respond.

"If you subscribe to the online Publishers Weekly you may have noticed an
article about Congress not reinstating RIF (Reading Is FUNdamental) funding.
I just want to put in a plug for this wonderful program in hopes some of you
might feel inclined to act. I ran two RIF programs for seven years. RIF
provided quality free books for our low income and migrant students in the
Vineland School District 3 times each year. Students chose the books
themselves from among those we ordered. I purposely ordered books from many
of the wonderful authors in our region. I still have students come up to me
and tell me some of Terry Pierce's jokes from those books they selected.
All the books were brand new.

RIF is the oldest and most active literacy distribution program in the US.
Millions upon millions of free books have been given away since 1968. The
budget for next year has been completely ELIMINATED. That means our school
and hundreds of others will not be able to participate in the program.
Since I teach some of the poorest students in the state, the vast majority
of my students will never have the opportunity to select a book of their own
to keep without this program. I kid you not, the first year I started this
program I had kids cry tears of joy over getting a book to keep!

A Model and an Angel

Surrounded by angels, be they spirit or furred.
This is a new piece titled: In Prayer. It is ACEO size; 2.5 x 3.5. One of a series I am doing based on Angel imagery. The furry white guy? He is Boba-licious. A fine model, I must say.

Oppossum ACEO

Did you know, that I one time raised an orphan oppossum? I named her Ophelia. She was frightfully sweet. Loved to eat bananas, of all things. This is an ACEO sized painting I did of her this week. It is in my Etsy store.

The Artists Way- Three pages a day...

For anyone writing their "Morning Pages" this red journal, covered in hand made specialty paper, with plant fibers pressed into the pulp, will make the experience more lovely. I added a ribbon to serve as a page marker, with handmade polymer clay beads.

An Etsy Artist, who creates Artwork using elements of stitchery, textile, transferred images, transparencies, dressmakers tissue. Her item descriptions are worth investigating, just for the joy of reading the humorous stories with each piece, and to get a glimpse of Potatobirds wit and fiestiness!
