Pearl My Girl

Looked so lovely in the morning light, I had to make an image of her.
This was done ACEO size--2.5 x 3.5.
Pearl is a purebred Ragdoll Cat. A lovely girl and a wonderful Mom cat. Her eyes are a crystal blue color. At the moment, she is pregnant and a tad cranky...if we all leave her alone, whether in her sun spot or in her basket, then she will tolerate our presence.
This art card is listed on Ebay. To see the auction :(click here)

Miss Ratty in a Corset

She stands only three inches tall. I made her out of polymer clay, that was then painted with bronze/green/purple acrylics to give a faux patina.
I have her listed at my Etsy shop.

Clay Baby

This week, I have tapped into my love of playing with clay and my fascination with miniatures.

I opened a new shop on Etsy called: Melsminatures.
I listed several teeny, tiny little creations including a skull focal bead, Sushi and Bagels!
What can I say? It makes me happy to play with Clay--goes back to my childhood of watching Gumby and Pokey and continues to my adulthood watching Wallace and Gromit. It is just squishy goodness!

Highlights of 2007

The Society of Childrens Writers and Illustrators ~ SCBWI. Our local group of Illustrators participated in an exhibit at the Chemers Gallery in Tustin, California. Each Artist was given a random phrase from a work of Children's Literature, and given the opportunity to ILLUSTRATE that phrase. It was quite a fun challenge and the results were varied and creative.
The promotional mailer above contains an image from each participating artist. Can you tell which image is mine?

In October I participated in a group show at the Maude Kerns Art Center in Eugene Oregon.

The Art Show celebrated "Dia de Los Muertes"- Day of the Dead.
These are the three pieces I had in the show.

Looking back at 2007

In September, I was honored to be asked to participate in an Artist Auction to help Mountain Gorillas. I chose to make an ACEO (Art Cards Editions and Originals) showing the intensity and feeling visible in the eyes of these primates. This art was created in Acrylics on illustration board.
